Free day’s fishing and tackle testing event
Thanks to a joint initiative between Denbigh & Clwyd Angling Club, Foxons Fishing Tackle and Llyn Derwen Fishery, the club has organised a free ‘Try Fly Fishing’ day with and an opportunity to try out a selection of new fishing tackle free of charge and is issuing an open invitation to anybody who would like to attend.
The event, which will take place at Llyn Derwen, located between Ruthin and Corwen, between 10am and 4pm on Sunday 26 April, will also include advice about tackle choice, fly fishing techniques for trout, sea trout and salmon as well as fly casting demonstrations provided by local experts and qualified instructors plus a number of question and answer sessions.
Commenting about the event, club chairman and qualified fly casting coach, Craig Evans, said: “It’s an opportunity to find out more about fly fishing and test a range of new tackle if you’re considering taking up fly fishing as a sport or thinking of upgrading your existing equipment, to find out if the new tackle meets your casting or fishing style free of charge and without any commitment to buy.”
Places are limited and prior booking via Foxons is essential. At the same time, those attending can book the rod or reel they would like to try out on the day from the range available. Foxon’s staff will also be in attendance at the event throughout the day offering expert advice about all fishing matters if asked.
There isn’t a lower age limit for anybody wishing to attend and the club is particularly keen to see as many youngsters as possible attending to find out more about fishing as a sport, but for safety reasons anybody below the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
While the fishing is free on the day, the owners of the fishery have agreed to sell any fish caught to those who would like to take their catch home with them.
