With the belated arrival of the shoals of Mackerel all along the North Wales coast this month, catches of bass have been steadily improving with some great sport to be had!
There's been reports of huge swarms of baitfish being driven towards the shore around Llandudno and Colwyn Bay, and some evenings it's even been possible to walk the beach with a bucket and simply pick up stranded Mackerel!!!
So with all the extra baitfish activity around, I headed out to the Straits recently and had a nice 4lb bass at night but most pleasing were the reports coming in for two of our Foxon's regulars.
Wayne McGilloway came in to the shop beaming this week, proud to have nailed his first bass on the fly after covering some serious mileage in the process! With all the joey mackerel around he drew black stripes on his green and silver sandeel pattern with immediate results. Wayne then followed that result up a few days later with a cracking 6lb fish on a Xorus Patchinko surface lure too!
Another regular putting in the hours and the miles in search of silver is Dylan Evans. His recent efforts have been rewarded in a big way after pulling out this stunning specimen:
A fantastic near-double figure bass, and with the adrenaline still pumping he also lost an even bigger fish by his feet later in the same session too!
Looks like this autumn is shaping up to be a great one for North Wales bass fishing, if these pics have whetted your appetite, why not get out there and see what you could catch...
